Donated apartment helps Shah family through transplant

April 21, 2021

As of December 21, 2020, the Shah family of San Francisco received a donated apartment through Bay Area companies. The recipient going through treatment, Tauseef went through a bone marrow transplant and he says the recovery went smoother thanks to the apartment they had close by.

Shah along with the majority of other residents at RMHC are severely immunocompromised. Through the pandemic, RMHC has had to lower the amount of residents they have in their facility to maintain social distancing and keep up with deep cleaning.

Due to this, RMHC Bay Area has received ten apartments from donations and plans to continue using them after the pandemic. Donors realized that the communal style living of the typical RMHC housing wasn’t best suited for the residents for this past year, so many residents have been extremely grateful for the apartments.

The apartments have allowed

  • Safe Neighborhood

  • More families to be served

  • Even closer to the local hospital

The Bay Area location for RMHC which can hold up to about 250 families is now only being used by 100 to keep everyone safe.

Ronald McDonald House looks forward to continuing partnering with local companies and sponsors to continue serving their residents to the best of their ability even through major challenges.
